The Guilford County District 8 Commissioner and Chairman Skip Alston said county services could see negative impacts if the cap was lowered. He said the limit would not allow the county to generate the money needed for services, including Emergency Medical Services and fire stations. He said funding is critical to provide the necessary services to the county's growing population.
"Someone having a heart attack in their homes. ... right now, we can get to them in nine minutes and 48 seconds," Alston said. "If we have an influx of people coming in, and we can't provide the satellite stations in order to provide those services in a timely manner, is it OK for them to get there in 15 minutes?"
