NAACP NC State Conference
The NAACP NC State Conference opposes all three constitutional amendments on the ballot because of the impact they will have on our communities. The voter ID amendment would drastically affect our mail-in voters, especially those in college and on active duty. We should not make it harder for people to exercise one of their most fundamental rights. How can we ask our service members to put their lives on the line to defend our country, then turn around and create unnecessary obstacles that make it more difficult for them to have a voice in this country?
The Income tax cap amendment may sound appealing on the surface, but the long-term consequences could be significant. If you vote yes, you are voting to limit the state's ability to generate revenue, which will reduce funding for the public services our communities depend on, such as our public school system, emergency services, public safety, and other critical community needs.
The same goes for the property tax levy limit amendment. It really won't provide much relief for homeowners, and the amendment doesn't specify a cap, which can be dangerous if it falls into the wrong hands. It would only benefit those who don't need the services in the first place. We have to vote for changes that will positively impact our entire community, not just certain groups.
