Harnett County Board of Commissioners
The Harnett County Board of Commissioners unanimously adopted a resolution opposing the state’s bid for “any constitutional amendment that would restrict, cap, reduce, or otherwise limit county property tax authority” at its meeting Monday night.
The resolution comes after a state House committee advanced a constitutional amendment to limit future increases of property tax levies in the General Assembly on Wednesday. The amendment doesn’t specify exactly how that would be done, but those in opposition say it would greatly hamper a county’s ability to fund essential services. Any amendment would require the approval of a majority of voters in the next election.
